The Heaven Shop by Deborah Ellis.

I liked this book it it very good and I enjoyed it it was fun to read. The thing that shocked me the most was that how hard they had to work and that how mean the relatives were.

Paper Bag Game.

Our strategy is to make good bags and that if we are in really bad time then we have to sell Rachel. I think that this will work and that we won't survive because it is very hard.

Describing This Course.

I liked this corse it is very fun and it makes you more matcher and wiser.

3rd World Farmer Reflection

The purpose of the game is to understand how it is like to be in the cycle of poverty, how hard it is to get out of the cycle of poverty and how much shock factors affect you when you are stuck in the cycle of poverty. My plan was that I will send my daughter to school so that she can be educated and wont have to walk to get water but it coasted a lot of money and she got a job in the city so i had no help on the farm I also tried to make a well so that we get better access to water but my well caved in and I had to let the military on my farm because they paid me and I had no money but the military told me i needed a farm license so I got broke and every one ended up dieing from low health so I quit. Short term goals like survival and food was all that I could worry about because I had no money. Because of the short term goals my people can’t worry about the MDG’s they only worry about survival so they end up with bad health and people dumping sewage on your farm. I was trapped in a poverty cycle and the characters can’t afford to help the world and others they could only worry about themselves. I wished that a NGO can come and help me but it never happened. If I could worried about the future, illness and business I could have won the game because they affect me more than the short term survival goals. These goals increase the standard of living by affecting health, and poverty. I learned that it is very hard to get out of the cycle of poverty. This game relates to the SLR of reason critically because we have to worry about health, money and survival. This game relates to MDG #1 end poverty and hunger.

I picked this image because this is the start up page of third world farmer. Notice that it says endure the hardships of 3rd world farming. I think that they are trying to prove that farming is very hard and it is harder to get out of the cycle of poverty.

In L.E.D.C’s farmers are affected by shock factors, unfair trade and not having the freedom of choice. Short term goals are like a metal wall blocking development they cant worry about long term goals because they need to survive. Farming is mostly done in L.E.D.C’s by peasants who are in poverty since they don’t get much crops to sell the have to worry about survival and can’t develop into the modern world.

Peace Day at ISKL

Today was our peace day activity. We organised games, painting, drawing, cookie selling and online commitments on peaceoneday.com. My job was to operate a game, the game was called tangle and untangle no one joined. When I entered the global issues room I suddenly felt more happy I saw face painting, smiling faces, people having fun and people yelling "make a commitment" but not in a bad yelling friendly yelling. It made me happy because no one wanted to play my game all of lunch. I could just smell the cookies and even the keyboard felt better from the comfort of the room. Also outside everyone was happily playing games on the blue top. There were games like water balloons basket ball and even a heart shape made of people. In the end we had raised 185$ 611RM and made every one have a better mood today and be aware for peace day. We will now donate the money for t-shirts for a group of teachers running a marathon for land mine victims and AID orphans in Cambodia. With the money that the runner can donate we can give legs to land mine victims and parents for AID orphans.

I really think that between the assembly and the activities we operated today we made a big difference even though we didn't stop war we still made a big difference to our world.

What worked: When we did the dance I looked up and saw everyone dancing the dance even if they were not that into it but the crowd had told them otherwise. Also everyone was in a good mood for the assembly. Also I liked the videos about Peace they were fun.

Why did it work: Because we had taught people the dance before the assembly and had a good advertisement. Also the hard work every one put into the show really showed to the audience I had gotten many complements.

What could have been improved: Some of the CD's would not work and so home group teachers could not play them in home group. Also we need to know what time to meet before the assembly because all of my class went to the wrong room.

My job for peace day is to come up with a game to play relating to peace. I think that this is important because a game is fun and people are going to play it and be aware of peace .

What I think of piece day

1) What big ideas did you get from watching it?
That if we stop fire for only a day then many people will think that it is wrong and stop the more that stop we will have peace.
2) Why is peace so important?
Because if we don't have peace then our world will never see a end of war.
3) What are the links between peace and development?
If some countries stop war then other countries will not have to pay money and lives to defend them so they can focus on big problems like the MDG's
4) What are the hidden costs of war?
the number of lives lost, the tourism in that country, the country's development.

What Are Global Issues And Why Should I Care?

Global Issues is a class that we take in ISKL to learn about Conflicts that our earth face and how we can help to solve these problems. From Global Issues i have learned about the millennium development goals that are goals made by the UN in 2000 and will be solved in the year of 2015. These goals will create world equality, piece, health, poverty and hunger. If we complete all of our goals no body will feel starved and no countries will be left behind.

Why should i care? Well almost 2/3rds of the world is starving. That is way to many people and it is unacceptable. We want no one to die in poverty and hunger. also almost half of humanity lives on less then 2.50$ a day and the median household income is about 52,029$ per year and it is so easy to stop if the world just spent 1% less on weapons and soldiers then in 2000 every child would have basic education but this did not happen. so help now!
